Local Dragon Looking for an Apprentice

Potential entrepreneurs are given a unique opportunity to learn from a local businessman, Shawn Khorassani. Following the successful launch of Coras last year and the subsequent gala evening in May where a start-up local business was awarded £10,000 and year’s mentoring by Shawn Khorassani, he is now offering to share his business knowledge with aspiring business people.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a budding entrepreneur to get a first hand experience in the business world from an established businessman who has set up several successful companies.

“I only wish I had the same opportunity when I started “commented Shawn Khorassani. “I was a graduate engineer with seven years of experience when I started Prestige Network, my first company. Little did I know that business experience is completely different to professional experience. In my opinion, two years of shadowing a self-made person is worth more than years of working and studying for MBA and other qualifications. Such experience puts the right person ten years ahead of others.”

Applicants are invited to submit their CV to hello@Coras.me. It is envisaged that the appointment will take place by November 2013. More information on www.coras.me

Coras Boosts the Local Economy

Coras2013 Finalists – Shawn Khorassani of Coras, Sharon Moore of Baby Ballerinas, Natalie Ash of Fields of Fun, Melanie Millin of Love Kombucha, Debi Richens and Simon Tyler of Fitelle and Gary and Julia Brown of Track Your Ltd

Following the successful Awards Ceremony, the winner and all of the finalists of Coras2013 have started to reap the benefits of their recent competition-process.

Fields of Fun became the winning start-up business of Coras2013, securing £10,000 cash and business mentoring from local entrepreneur Shawn Khorassani. The founder of Fields of Fun, Natalie Ash, said: “Winning Coras 2013 was incredibly exciting and it has been a wonderful platform from which to promote Fields of Fun, having gained some great exposure.”

Ms Ash’s activities have  been featured in a number of publications including Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Life Magazine and has found that  this publicity  has attracted new clients. Natalie Ash continued: “Having Shawn’s expertise has also been invaluable; knowing that there is always someone on the other end of the phone to call for advice.”

Love Kombucha, finalist of Coras2013, now has a number of regular customers as a direct result of the event. Melanie Millin, who started her health-drink business, said: “We are busy delivering Kombucha drink around the local area and are in the final stages of drafting labels  for our sleek new flavours – Blueberry, Original and Ginger.’ Love Kombucha will soon be making a regular appearance at the Newbury market on Saturdays.”

Another shortlisted start-up business of Coras 2013, Baby Ballerinas, is going from strength to strength and student numbers are continuing to grow. Sharon Moore, of Baby Ballerinas, said:  “I am getting closer to fulfilling my dreams.  Coras enabled me to take a look in detail at where I would like my business to go moving forward and has helped me take the steps towards bigger and better things.  The feedback from the evening has been amazing and so nice to have people that believe in my dreams as much as I do.”

Track Your Ltd also competed for Coras2013 award in May and since the event their unique GPS Monitors for people, pets and possessions have assisted people in various situations. Gary Brown of Track Your Ltd said: “We are also proud to be working in association with Marvellous Festivals. At the same time, we are actively seeking new avenues and offer No Obligation Trials.”

Debi Richens of Fitelle, finalist of Coras2013, explained how the event helped her to focus on her business. She said: “Being chosen as a Coras2013 finalist made us slow down, take a step back, and make a few minor tweaks. However, it was the fact that we did not win the Award that forced us to look more intensely at our business model.  By turning our disappointment into enthusiasm, we quickly realised Coras had given us the confidence to experiment with different ideas and not be afraid to make changes when needed.”

One hundred guests, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Newbury, Cllr Arthur Johnson and Miss Kathryn Humble and the local MP, Richard Benyon, gathered at this glittering gala evening, the like of which has not been seen in Newbury before.

Five Coras2013 finalists had the opportunity to present their businesses to the audience of over fifty companies. Shawn Khorassani, who selected the winner, said: ‘All the finalists had sound business ideas and plans for growth. It was very difficult to choose one company and in fact I intend to work with all of them in some shape or form.’

The winning company, Fields of Fun, was founded by Natalie Ash in August 2012 and with the cash award and mentoring from Shawn Khorassani, she is hoping to expand her business that provides bespoke countryside breaks. Natalie Ash said: ‘It has been a privilege to have participated in Coras2013 and an honour to have won, particularly with the standard of the competition. Of course the money will be a huge help, but Shawn’s mentorship will be invaluable in taking Fields of Fun to the next level. ‘

Melanie Millin, who presented her start-up company Love Kombucha UK  at Coras2013 said: ‘It was a great event and I am thankful to Coras for having the vision in the first place.’

Another finalist, Baby Ballerina’s founder, Sharon Moore thought that her presentation in front of the large audience provided her with the perfect platform to promote her business. She said: ‘It made me realise I can feel the fear and do it anyway.’

The fourth business was presented by a local couple, Gary and Julia Brown of Track Your Ltd. They confidently introduced their range of tracking devices.

Debi Richens competed at Coras2013 to win support for her Fitelle business. She said: ‘It was an incredible night. I met amazing people and am motivated so much more. We all have won something from this event.’

Coras2013 was supported by over twenty local companies. Derek Rogers of Gardner Leader commented on the evening: ‘It was both inspiring and fun and superbly organised. I have no doubt that all five finalists have taken a lot from the process which will be of a real benefit to them in the future.

Richard Benyon, MP for Newbury, called the evening ‘a triumph.’

Sam Harper of Coras said: ‘We were overwhelmed by the success of this event and the number of comments and responses within 24 hours after it, requesting the continuation of this initiative.
